Michigan State University and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), part of CIES- the Consumer Goods Forum, with generous support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the USAID Partnership for Food Industry Development are setting the stage for harmonized best practices and core training among the many standards, certification and training bodies dealing in food safety.

Greetings!

The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Michigan State University, USAID, and PFID-F&V invite you to participate in the development of the Global Food Safety Knowledge Network (FSKN)
on September 28, 2009. The FSKN is a unique collaboration between public and private sectors with the goal of increasing the food safety skills of individuals throughout the food value chain in emerging markets. These skills are increasingly needed throughout the food chain as highlighted by recent worldwide food safety events.

You were selected as an invitee to this event for your expertise and willingness to look for innovative solutions to complex food safety issues. More specifically, at this event you will be able to network with academia, industry, and regulatory bodies in creating a sustainable path for international food safety.

Please join us in Washington, D.C. on September 28th at the Marriott-Residence Inn - Capitol Hill. There is no cost to attend the daylong meeting. Participants must pay their own travel and hotel costs. Your ideas will help strengthen the food industry's response to the complex food safety knowledge and training challenges that affect emerging markets. Already, we have received commitments from potential donors, international corporations and others that they will be attending.
